I also have utilities like the Universal Low Level Formatter, and NTFS4DOS. My DOS boot disk comes up in an Ansi Color dos menu, with many options, on just how I will run Ghost. I don't know if I've ever gone into detail about my Ghost 11.5 boot disk (CD, Flash Drive or SD card). That's the way Windows 10 installed itself on this HD. I hope that answers at least some of your questions.ĮPM tells me that the C: partition is formatted NTFS/ Basic MBR. So I have to conclude that both the Backup and the Restore worked 100%. Then I shut down the system, removed my Ghost CD, and rebooted to the HD. So my C: partition was completely overwritten. The backup went off without a hitch, and my WiFi Mouse and USB Keyboard worked just find through the process.įollowing the creation of the Backup Image File with FAST Compression, I immediately did a Restore of "Image to Partition". Then I rebooted the system with my DOS boot disk containing Ghost 11.5 and I proceeded to do a Ghost backup to a second partition on the W-10 HD. So I unplugged my W7 HD and plugged in the Win-10 drive, booted it up and made sure it was working properly. Having said that, I do have Windows 10 Pro/64 on an old 80GB Seagate drive. First let me say that I don't normally run Windows 10. , or try booting from the windows cd and when it askes repair a already present operating system press. but best way to solve is just re-install windows without formatting or use a CD version Or the partition you just started the backup from. Making your primairy disk 1 gig larger then normally was. Now ur ghost files just copy's the partition information and leaves the MBR alone ( as mutch as possible ). This partition -10, that hp backup partition +10, that for 5 days. The changes being informed by the HP / Dell tool ( or might be ur factory backup tool ) What cluster, wich compartment contains what information and how its called ect. Now the main boot record, or master boot record, stores the information what MB goes where Then ur created partition with a ghost of a week ago or month or year. ect this is the backup tool of the factory itself HP or Dell have this for instance , Graduately decreasing the original size of the original partition slightly to match the needs of the backup. Now instead of giving a error "wich people dislike " these days ( as far as i know ) self expand the size. More history the system stores and more info files system accumolates wich results in enlarging the partition original but also enlarging the copy ofcourse but at some point its giong to exeed the the space available on the hidden restore partition , The backup manager monthly makes a back up. To partition in image file and image put back could indicate that somehow the changes in HDD could have changed somehow ,Ī hidden self enlarging restore partition. If you you made a image it could be a image duplicate on the partition you copy it to. So thats 15 mins for installation of windows and 5 mins running installs and pressing next button 24 x a installīut norton ghost, makes a "snapshot " or " image " of the HDD, back then it was to file or to partition , because simply reinstalling windows is 20 mins of work " with " the installation of all the software i have the installes burned on dvd, with the numbers wich are tucked away in box on the attic somewhere. Norton ghost now these days has grown beyond my comprehension, because i havent used it in years.
